Entropy generation in a model of reversible computation

    Get PDF
We present a model in which, due to the quantum nature of the signals controlling the implementation time of successive unitary computational steps, \emph{physical} irreversibility appears in the execution of a \emph{logically} reversible computation.Comment: 13 pages, 6 figure

NA60 results on phi production in the hadronic and leptonic channels in In-In collisions at 158 GeV

    Get PDF
The NA60 experiment at the CERN SPS studied phi meson production in In-In collisions at 158 A GeV via muon and kaon decay channels. Results in the hadronic channel are presented for the first time. These are discussed in the framework of the so-called phi puzzle through the comparison with the previous NA60 measurements in the muon channel. The yield and inverse m_T slopes observed in the two channels are compatible within errors, showing that the large discrepancies seen in Pb-Pb collisions between NA50 (muon pairs) and NA49 (kaon pairs) are not seen in the NA60 In-In data.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures - To appear in the conference proceedings for Quark Matter 2009, March 30 - April 4, Knoxville, Tennesse

Vector meson production in pp collisions at s=7 TeV\sqrt{s}=7\rm{~TeV}, measured with the ALICE detector

Vector mesons are key probes of the hot and dense state of strongly interacting matter produced in heavy ion collisions. Their dileptonic decay channel is particularly suitable for these studies, since dileptons have negligible final state interactions in hadronic matter. A preliminary measurement of the ϕ\phi and ω\omega differential cross sections was performed by the ALICE experiment in pp collisions at s=7\sqrt{s}=7 TeV, through their decay in muon pairs. The pTp_{\rm T} and rapidity regions covered in this analysis are pT>1p_{\rm T}>1 GeV/c/c and 2.5<y<42.5 < y < 4.Comment: 4 pages, 4, figures, proceedings of the Quark Matter 2011 conferenc

The Geometry of Interaction of Differential Interaction Nets

The Geometry of Interaction purpose is to give a semantic of proofs or programs accounting for their dynamics. The initial presentation, translated as an algebraic weighting of paths in proofnets, led to a better characterization of the lambda-calculus optimal reduction. Recently Ehrhard and Regnier have introduced an extension of the Multiplicative Exponential fragment of Linear Logic (MELL) that is able to express non-deterministic behaviour of programs and a proofnet-like calculus: Differential Interaction Nets. This paper constructs a proper Geometry of Interaction (GoI) for this extension. We consider it both as an algebraic theory and as a concrete reversible computation. We draw links between this GoI and the one of MELL. As a by-product we give for the first time an equational theory suitable for the GoI of the Multiplicative Additive fragment of Linear Logic.Comment: 20 pagee, to be published in the proceedings of LICS0

A semantic account of strong normalization in Linear Logic

We prove that given two cut free nets of linear logic, by means of their relational interpretations one can: 1) first determine whether or not the net obtained by cutting the two nets is strongly normalizable 2) then (in case it is strongly normalizable) compute the maximal length of the reduction sequences starting from that net.Comment: 41 page

Time-dependent density functional theory for open spin chains

    Get PDF
The application of methods of time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) to systems of qubits provided the interesting possibility of simulating an assigned Hamiltonian evolution by means of an auxiliary Hamiltonian having different two-qubit interactions and hence a possibly simpler wave function evolution. In this note we extend these methods to some instances of Lindblad evolution of a spin chain.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figure

The relational model is injective for Multiplicative Exponential Linear Logic (without weakenings)

    Get PDF
We show that for Multiplicative Exponential Linear Logic (without weakenings) the syntactical equivalence relation on proofs induced by cut-elimination coincides with the semantic equivalence relation on proofs induced by the multiset based relational model: one says that the interpretation in the model (or the semantics) is injective. We actually prove a stronger result: two cut-free proofs of the full multiplicative and exponential fragment of linear logic whose interpretations coincide in the multiset based relational model are the same "up to the connections between the doors of exponential boxes".Comment: 36 page

Reasons and opportunism control in public grants policies for development and innovations of businesses

    Get PDF
In this paper we would to analyze the mechanism of public grants on economic growth. In particular this topic has been the subject of scientific interest by economists and, recently, also by business economics scholars. The studies of the economists focused on the motivations of the intervention itself; the business economic studies, on the other hand, have analyzed the impact both on the behavior of entrepreneurs and on the firms themselves by public grants. The studies examined so far highlight two basic conceptual dimensions, different, but also complementary to each other: on the one hand the economic-oriented to investigate the motivations and effectiveness of the public intervention; the second, business-oriented, focused on the firm’s behavior following public grant. Based on these arguments, our research question arises: could the effectiveness of public intervention for funding development and business innovation be influenced by the differences in the various socio-political and institutional contexts in which they are applied? The aim of paper is analyze the motivations of public grants policies and their influence on the behavior of firms. In this way we want to identify asolutions scheme able to recover efficiency and effectiveness of public actions to support development. It is therefore possible to identify some corrective mechanisms on public intervention policies. In particular with reference to the behaviors induced by the grants policies, the idea is to re-design the grants policies in consideration of the different forms of pre and post contractual opportunism. With reference, instead, to the motivations underlying the public grants policies, it is necessary to examine the relationship between the State (Principal) and the beneficiary firms (Agent) in relation to the respective dimensions of the contractual force
